Portal 2 + ARG

Portal 2 + ARG
Valve is a f**king Genius.
They're currently patching the original, with morse code receivers, a different ending, ASCII art hidden in the base files, code which can be translated through SSTV into images, and much more; all part of an ongoing ARG.
WIN.
Also, Gameinformers covering it in April, which I happen to get Big Grin

Heres links, look at 'em all:

Yes, an ARG, what better way to announce such a decidedly awesome game than as an ARG.

EDIT: Oh, and Steam along with Valve's Steam games are coming to Mac.

RE: Portal 2 + ARG
Not a huge Valve person, personally. I did enjoy Portal and I think TF2 is one of the most quotable games ever... But I don't actually own anything by them and therefore I kinda disregard Steam's existence. So even if I had Portal I wouldn't know about all the updates.

Portal 2 could be interesting. It could also be a huge disaster. We'll see.

RE: Portal 2 + ARG
I'll admit I'm a little afraid. Portal was wonderful on its own, so far away from other games in style and humor. A sequel could ruin that. However, just look at what they did with HL1. I'm sure Valve knows what they're doing.

I dunno. I looked at what they did with Half-Life and all I saw was science and outer space. >>;

But it was brilliant, had a well-plotted storyline, was innovative, and fun.

RE: Portal 2 + ARG
It's a bog-standard FPS as far as I'm concerned, to be honest. Best thing to come out of Half-Life was Full Life Consequences.

RE: Portal 2 + ARG
Oof. I'd call the Half-Lives anything but bog-standard. Especially with that super epic Gravity Gun.

How was it standard? It created the standards. Before the Half-Life series, FPS's didn't have storylines, didn't have the same gameplay, and the Gravity Gun, which hasn't been recreated since. It may be bog-standard now, but when it came out it was above every other game in the genre.

RE: Portal 2 + ARG
I beg to differ on the 'FPSes didn't have storylines' comment.

I have two words for you, Lemons. System Shock.

Its plotline and cast of characters eat Half-Life's for breakfast, and it gets even crazier once the (quite excellent) sequel is thrown into the mix.

And dig this - Shock was released in 1994. That's long before Half-Life was even a bad idea.

So yes, the graphics were not as fancy as Half-Life's were obviously, but for its time, Shock looked good, and played awesome. It was ridiculously ahead of its time... and sadly got overlooked because everyone was busy killing each other in shite like Doom II.

So excuse me if I see nothing innovative about a game that was thrown into the mix four to five years later.

Since you guys are ignoring me, I'll just kindly duck out of the debate now, unless I have something really good to say...which I don't...
